Abstract

As an innovative technology, artificial intelligence (AI) is changing the modern-day societies, economy, and workplace quickly, leaving a strong necessity of graduates with AI-related skills. With the adoption and more frequent application of AI-based technologies across the decision-making process, communication, and production of knowledge, institutions of higher learning need to redesign curriculums to train students to have the necessary skills in AI literacy. Nevertheless, systematic methods of AI literacy implementation when it comes to disciplinary contexts lack many academic programmes. In this study, the researcher examines the potential of teaching students artificial intelligence literacy in higher educational institutions and presents a theoretical model of how to develop educational courses that are future-proof. The study will use the systematic review of the academic literature on artificial intelligence in education, digital competence models, and the models of curriculum development. Thematic analysis helped uncover major areas of competency that the AI literacy organisation should focus on, such as basic AI knowledge, data literacy, awareness of ethical concerns, and skills in practical application. On the basis of these results, a model of multi-layered curriculum implementation is suggested, which involves foundational sensitization to AI education, applications of AI in disciplines, and project-based learning opportunities. Design of curriculum: interdisciplinary: Interdisciplinary curriculum design is found to play a critical role in curriculum development, particularly in relation to teacher training and institutional policy support. The framework suggested has offered realistic recommendations to curriculum makers and educators who are interested in incorporating AI literacy in higher learning institutions. Further studies must also have an empirical measure of the suitability of AI literacy curricula and examine their effect on student learning outcomes and workforce readiness.
